I look on the coronavirus crisis in the UK with despair whilst here under lock down on the Costa Blanca, Spain, the feeling is of a calm acceptance.
Ninety percent of people wear masks and almost all wear latex gloves, the supermarkets are civilised, well stocked and the check out cashiers are provided with a Perspex screen barrier. Pet walking is limited to one walker, within 300 meters and any exercise has to be taken at home. The majority of cases of coronavirus are in Madrid and the north. Down here in the local coastal towns we have no reported cases and with the extensive measures that government and Guardia Civil have adopted we feel it could stay that way.
I'd give anything to be back in Herefordshire for the spring and summer but with fighting in local convenience stores, panic buying in supermarkets, a gung ho (by some) attitude towards a world wide pandemic and now Newport and Abergavenny declared as "hot spots" I'd much rather take my chances here.
