SIR – RE the opening of the new railway station at Norton, on all the photographs shown in your paper, the station seems to comprise of a central area, presumably shops and booking area, but on the platform, no protection from the weather, apart from what looks like a bus shelter.

The opening of the station might be good for reducing traffic congestion for commuters now driving to Birmingham to catch trains, but the congestion is now switched to Broomhall, Norton and Whittington, but who cares?

One now can see why the county council was desperate to build the station, so that they could allow development nearby and get even more money to waste as if we have not got enough, with another 2,000-plus houses being built in the area shortly.
