DOUBLE yellow lines are set to be introduced outside a busy school in the spring.

But Worcestershire County Councillor Tony Miller has said he is trying to bring a layby back to give parents of children at Tibberton CE First School on the school run a place to park.

Cllr Miller said: “They are going to introduce double yellow lines to alleviate the problems in Plough Road, opposite the school (where children are dropped off and picked up).

“The double yellows are going through the legal process, and could come in this financial year.

“You have parents on the school run but with what has been happening with Pulley Lane closed (due to roadworks) drivers have also seen Tibberton as a rat run, so neighbours have had to suffer even more.

“The double yellow lines are needed.

“I am looking to reintroduce a parking bay in Hawthorn Rise. It will need to be safety checked.

“But if its OK to go ahead it would just be a short stay, drop off area - you wouldn’t be able to park there all day.

“I would approach the parish council to pay for it.”

Councillor Alan Amos, the authority’s cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “Worcestershire County Council have recently advertised a proposal to install double yellow lines close to Tibberton First School.

“This will allow vehicles to meet and pass safely, particularly at school hours where there is a high demand for parking.

“No objections were received during the advertisement period, therefore, we will aim to have the restrictions on the ground in the spring.

“We will continue to liaise with Councillor Miller regarding further suggestions to improve parking in the schools surrounding areas.”

Cllr Miller’s bid for a layby follows his attempts to help deal with school run parking outside another school, Himbleton CE First School, near Droitwich.

On that ongoing issue the councillor said he had been reluctant to act but had been forced to do so after neighbours and parish councillors contacted him about the parking issues.

Cllr Miller has applied to the authority for a single yellow line to be painted down Neight Hill, near that school, with only a maximum stay of 45 minutes allowed, and double yellows lines to be painted on a bend at a junction with Harrow Lane.

On that issue the authority said it had received a request to restrict the parking and there is currently a consultation on a proposal for the area being carried out, as well as talks with Cllr Miller on “the best options.”
