A REDNAL mum is crowdfunding so she can give her six-month-old baby boy 'the send off he deserves'.

Katherine Ebanks set up a GoFundMe page for her son Rupert last week.

On the page, which so far raised more than £650, Katherine said Rupert went for his nap and just didn't wake up.

She said: "I am devastated, he was my rainbow after a miscarriage. He was a little mommy's boy.

"I'm empty, I'm numb and I'd give anything to spend more time with him. My other children miss him dearly, my heart tore in two having explain that their baby brother wasn't coming home."

The mum has put a target of £1,200 and said she wants enough to give him the "best send off".

Katherine added: "I am dreading funeral expenses and other costs, as I currently don't work just yet but I want to give my little Rupert bear, the absolute best send off. He impacted on so many people's lives, it's the least I can do for him. He deserves the absolute world."

Crowdfunding for funerals has soared in the past three years.

The rise has been put down to a combination of the increasing cost of funerals and the general rise in the use of online crowdfunding.
