A FUNDRAISING memorial gig is being held to mark what would have been the 16th birthday of a boy who died with leukaemia.

James O’Mara, from Claines, a student at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, would have been 16 on January 6, but he tragically died from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, an aggressive form of the disease in June 2017.

Since his death, various fundraisers have been held in his memory, including a previous gig that raised £3,500 for Bloodwise, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Liver Foundation.

And blood drives saw dozens give blood to help others.

The latest gig is being held at the Marrs Bar, in Pierpoint Street, on Saturday, January 4, with Vintage Inc and solo artist Colin Brown. James’ aunt, Amanda Tanner, said: “It would have been James’ last year at school, we have just celebrated another Christmas without him.

"In James’s memory we are raising money for the Children’s Hospital as they were so fantastic at treating him and also for Bloodwise - the leukaemia research charity and for Children’s Liver Disease foundation as there were so many poorly children with liver issues and there isn’t any real treatment. When the liver fails the body gets poisoned; that’s what happened to James.

“We want to keep raising money in his memory, and keep his memory alive.”

Tickets cost £8 each and there will also be a raffle on the night, which starts at 7pm. Money raised will again be split between the charities. Anyone unable to attend the night, but who wants to make a donation, can visit james-omara.muchloved.com.
