Police have finished DNA testing on human bones found in Kempsey which are believed to be the remains of Brenda Venables – but have not revealed the identity yet.
DNA testing had been taking place after the remains were discovered in a septic tank at a property in Kempsey in July this year.
Police said the remains belonged to a woman at the time, but after DNA testing was finished, would not reveal her identity.
Mrs Venables went missing in 1982 and, at the time, her husband David Venables spoke of his desperation to find her.
