THOUSANDS of people are expected to turn up to the biggest vegan event ever staged in the town, later this month.

Vegan food has never been more popular - with many mainstream restaurants, pubs and fast food chains offering increasingly attractive vegan menus.

Celebrities including Zac Efron, Benedict Cumberbatch, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande have been vocal about their meat and dairy-free way of life.

Kevin White, founder of Midlands Vegan Campaigns (MVC), organisers of the event, said: “Veganism is snowballing at a very fast rate in the UK.

"For many, vegan events are the best starting point if you’re vegan curious, an aspiring vegan or already enjoying the benefits of the lifestyle. Every town needs a Vegan Fair, including Redditch.”

It's nearly five years since the last Vegan Fair in Redditch, which was a much smaller event with just 10 stalls.

Coincidentally, that was also staged around the time of a General Election.

Mr White, who is the Green Party's Parliamentary candidate in Bromsgrove, has written to all candidates in Redditch and Bromsgrove inviting them to attend the event to sample the planet-friendly pleasures that veganism has to offer.

Visitors will be able to browse 35 stalls showcasing a wide range of products from skin care, perfume and makeup to clothes, jewellery and a vast array of food.

Mr White added: “Veganism has passed a tipping point and is unstoppable now.”

"Tickle your tastebuds with the latest gourmet vegan cheeses, indulgent creamy chocolates, scrumptious pizza, tantalising curries, heavenly cakes and everything in between. It’s like all the food you’ve ever enjoyed but with the unhealthy bits taken out and on many stalls you can try before you buy.”

There will also be free samples, recipes and nutritional guidance on offer.

The event is on Saturday, December 14 at Trinity High School

Entry to the Redditch Vegan Xmas Fair is free and all are welcome.

It will be open from 10.30am to 4pm.
