IT'S that time of year when kids and some adults are getting excited - Father Christmas is coming to the city.

Santa, along with his enchanting elves, will land in Worcester at 11am today after a 2,150-mile sleigh ride from Lapland and will be taking a new route through CrownGate shopping centre to officially declare the start of the most wonderful time of the year.

This year Santa will not be parading on the high street but festive characters will entertain the crowds as usual.

Santa and his entourage will start by making their way through Friary Walk, meeting and greeting event-goers as they head to the Angel Place entrance, where his magical Winter Wonderland will be.

The fun will then continue onwards to Chapel Walk where, at Bell Square, spectators will have the opportunity to have a photo with him in his sleigh.

The procession will then make a return journey to the Winter Wonderland, where Santa will sit atop his throne for more photos. Children and their families will also be able to take snaps at the seasonal selfie walls.

Then, every weekend and on Monday, December 23, Worcester will be able to see Santa, his elf and entertainers at the Winter Wonderland where they will be spreading even more Christmas cheer.

Mike Lloyd, centre manager at Crowngate Shopping Centre, said: “This year, we have increased the levels of magic and fun for our Christmas activities and we’re sure that the city will be out in full force to welcome Santa and friends back to Worcester.

“The atmosphere is always electric for his arrival and to make sure everyone gets to see him; we’d like to remind people that Santa will make his grand entrance at Angel Place and won’t be on High Street as like previous years.

“It’s certainly going to be lots of fun and it’s truly special to see people from all generations and communities coming together to enjoy the festivities,”
