REDDITCH residents are being asked to donate a gift to local families in need this Christmas.

Redditch Salvation Army on Ipsley Street is encouraging people to add an extra toy to their shopping list so that families struggling to buy a gift for their children can make sure there is something for them to open on Christmas Day.

Church leader Linda Sayner, said: “During the festive season, when many are enjoying celebrations with friends and family, others are struggling to make ends meet.

"The Christmas story inspires us as a church to reach out to those in need, so we’re running the Christmas present appeal to ensure every child gets a gift.”

People are invited to drop a new unused and unwrapped toy for a child from birth to 16 to the Salvation Army charity shop on Evesham Road in Crabbs Cross by December 6.

The shop is open between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

Alternatively, toys can be brought to the Hall in Ipsley Street between 10am and 1.30pm, from the week commencing December 2.

The Salvation Army will distribute the gifts to children and families in the area through local groups, and social services.

Gifts can include anything from soft and educational toys for the very youngest child, to games, toys and accessories for older children.
