THE MANAGER of a farm and smallholder supplies centre on the Welsh border has been handed a prestigious industry award.

Andrew Pattison, who runs the R M Jones branch in Hay-on-Wye was announced as the winner of the mastermind award at the National SQP Awards. The family run business was established nearly 60 years ago and also has stores in Hereford, Abergavenny and Ledbury. The company said Mr Pattison believes in providing the best possible technical advice, and with recent investment in a worm egg counting system by Fecpak, he can now provide better animal health advice and preventing unnecessary wormer use. The awards, organised by a leading animal health magazine, honour excellence and best practice in the animal health and welfare industry, and this year had a record number of entries. OvertheCounter editor Simon King said: "Congratulations to Andrew Pattison who was a deserved winner.

"Now in their third year, the National SQP Awards have highlighted the breadth and depth of talent, drive and ambition among animal health advisers.

"It was a pleasure to recognise the winners, but also all of those shortlisted, which, in itself, is a great achievement."
