CROWDS gathered in Bromyard on Saturday afternoon as the town's Christmas lights were switched on.

The lights are organised and erected by a group of local volunteers, who were awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Services back in 2011.

Town crier Peder Neilsen introduced guests to the stage in the town square, including chairman of the chamber of commerce David James.

Mr James thanked a number of businesses and organisations involved with the Christmas lights in the town, as well as musical groups who performed throughout the day.

Bromyard Wind Band teamed up with the choral society as carols were sung in the square, with a cappella choir, the Dulcetones, also involved earlier in the day.

There was also a lantern parade starting at the Conquest Theatre, with children from schools and youth clubs marching down the high street.

Sponsors of the day included The Queens Arms, Bromyard and Winslow Town Council and Keepmoat Homes.

Switching on the lights at 5pm was local businessman Brian Johnson, described as a stalwart of the town by Mr Neilsen.
