A DANCE school in Malvern has gained a famous patron with a world renowned ballet dancer joining.

Australian dancer Lachlan Monaghan has joined the Ballet Malvern Centre of Dance as its new patron of ballet.

The dance school, located in Cowleigh Road, has also enjoyed the patronage of ballerina Dame Lucette Aldous.

Mr Monaghan has already supported Ballet Malvern’s students with their exams and workshops and he will now be teaching a series of workshops this autumn, following the opening of the school’s third studio.

Principal Rebecca Sloan Kerton said: "We’re so excited to have Lachlan as one of our Patrons.

“He’s been such a huge support to the school already with classes, workshops and exam work.

“Being a soloist with Birmingham Royal Ballet, he’s a huge inspiration to our students and we’re looking forward to exciting new opportunities for them in the years to come."

Mr Monaghan added: "I am so touched that Rebecca asked me to be Patron, and it’s a huge honour to take on the position alongside Lucette.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to take on that position for such a wonderful school.”

Mr Monaghan joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2012. By 2016, he was first artist, and in 2018 became a soloist.

He has danced as Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet and appeared in productions by Peter Wright, Kenneth MacMillan and David Bintley, most recently staring in Bintley’s ballet, Hobson’s Choice.

Ballet Malvern offers classes from toddlers to adults on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Its Students put on two shows a year at Malvern College’s theatre.
