A DUDLEY teenage drag artist's journey to acceptance will be showcased in a CBBC documentary today, (November 11).

Not Just A Boy In A Dress follows 14-year-old Lewis Bailey as he organises a drag talent show after finding the confidence to be comfortable in his own skin.

Lewis, who performs as Athena Heart, hit the headlines last year after then-named Castle High School and Visual Arts College in Dudley told him he was not permitted to perform his drag act in the end-of-year talent show the day before it was to go ahead.

The school cited that they thought the act was ‘not appropriate’ due to Lewis’s age. However, despite not being able to perform his act, Lewis still chose to attend that day’s non-school uniform day in drag as Athena.

Since then, the teen has continued to hone his act and encourage others to express themselves.

The documentary follows the build-up to his show, Proud To Be Different, which raised money for the Albert Kennedy Trust, a charity that supports young gay people.

The show also shows how Lewis' family support him to host the event, from his grandmother making his costume to sister Mariah choreographing the dance routines.

Not Just A Boy In A Dress airs on CBBC at 5.30pm tonight (Monday, November 11) and is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer now.
