AFTER a public outcry and an embarrassing u-turn on plans to cut rent reduction on charity and voluntary organisations Redditch Council is now offering the same groups some free money.

An event where good causes in Redditch can sign up to boost their funds is being held tomorrow.

Voluntary community sector groups, charities or organisations are being invited to attend an event and apply to benefit from the Redditch Community Lottery.

The lottery, which will be launched for the public later in the year, will hopefully support good causes and "provide the opportunity for them to receive extra funding".

Interested groups can find out how the lottery will work and how they can hopefully benefit by attending a “Good Causes Launch Event” on Tuesday, November 12, from 6pm to 8pm at Redditch Town Hall.

VCS and charity organisations can nominate themselves, for free, to be added to a list of good causes.

Players can then choose which good causes to donate 50 per cent of the ticket cost to. A further 10 per cent will go into the Redditch Community Fund pot.

Councillor Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers leisure services, said: “I am delighted about the launch of the community lottery which will provide an additional way for our valuable VCS to be supported, with up to 60 per cent of the spend from each ticket up for grabs.

"Players can be assured that the money from their tickets will go towards supporting a good cause and they could be in the running for a £25k jackpot. So it’s win-win for everyone!”
