The country will soon be heading to the polls for the upcoming general election, but before that there’s a much more important vote happening – what colour should the interior of Richard Hammond’s new car be?

The star of TV’s Grand Tour, and before that Top Gear, is treating himself to a new Morgan Plus Six from the legendary Malvern-based car maker, but he needs the Internet’s help to decide on the design details.

This week, he has been running a poll on motoring website DriveTribe to choose whether his new car will have a bold blue interior, or a more traditional deep red colour scheme.

Anyone can vote, and Richard has promised to stick to the choice made by the voters. The poll closes on Monday.

He said: “I’m pretty indecisive at the best of times, so thought why not use the power of the internet to decide what colour leather I’ll have to look at every time I drive my new car.

“I mean, what could go wrong? I suppose they could demand I have Carry McCarFace stitched across the dashboard.”

Richard’s recorded a video with motoring journalist Zog Ziegler to help voters make their choice, and to show how his car will be built on the production line at Morgan’s factory in Pickersleigh Road, all the way from aluminium chassis to wooden frame and hand-trimmed interior.

So far he’s decided on two things: he wants a Morgan Plus Six, and he wants it to be black. The interior is up to DriveTribers.

The Morgan Plus Six is a hand-built British sports car powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder BMW engine.

With 335bhp under the bonnet and weighing just 1,050kg, it’ll get from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and roar on to a top speed of 165mph.
