AN adventurous 16-year-old Bewdley school student has entered the unknown as she explores Brazil on a year abroad.

Vlogger Star Powell, who attends Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, made her dream a reality as she set off for Brazil alone in September as part of a student exchange program.

The travelling teen is currently with a family in São Paulo and is taking on the challenge of learning Brazilian Portuguese as she experiences Latin American school life.

Star has visited an indigenous Brazilian village which has very limited contact with the outside world. She is also set to explore the Amazon Rainforest.

She continues to document her journey with videos she posts to Youtube on her channel Star Aurora.

The brave bilingual, who initially was set on moving to France for a student exchange, was the only person of her age to apply for a full year abroad through the Rotary International program.

Proud mother Stephanie Stead says she is delighted that her daughter is fulfilling her dream.

"As a parent you have to let them go at some point, she said.

"I was happy about her going because it's her dream and as a parent you have to support your children.

"Halloween and bonfire night haven't been the same without her. There's a big void.

"She'll miss Christmas here and her birthday.

"She initially wanted to go to France and wanted to immerse herself in French life.

"Then she decided to broaden her horizons and go to Brazil with the help of Bewdley Rotary Club.

"She was so happy when it was confirmed."

"Star has been sending daily text messages and pictures on Snapchats."

In 2018, Star was Bewdley's young mayor for the municipal year and was also named Young Physicist of the Year by the Ogden Trust for her exceptional efforts in studying the GCSE subject.
