STAFF at a Kidderminster primary school say they are touched with the level of community support they have received following a burglary.

Tools that children used for building and gardening were stolen from a shed at Foley Park Community Primary School, on Northumberland Avenue

The raid happened just after children broke up for half term, sometime between Friday October 25 and Sunday, October 27, with staff fearing Forest School lessons would have to be re-planned.

However, generous members of the public have reached out to the school to replace the stolen tools and raised funds following a campaign.

Forest School leader Sarah Hipwell said: "We have had a massive amount of support. It has been overwhelming and we are very grateful."

"It's heart-warming. Children have brought in their piggy banks. A little girl brought in £40 of her own money to donate.

"People were handing us money at our firework display. We were very touched by this."

Charity Open Trail, which runs the Kinver Edge Forest School, lent their outdoor tools to Foley Park, which has helped keep lessons on track.

Kidderminster resident Fred Bricknell, who lives on the same road as the school, has offered to donate tools and help with future security.

He said: "For 30 years I ran a tool hire company in Bromsgrove, so I had to cope security wise with protection.

"It's a lovely little school and I can't believe people would stoop so low."

An online fundraiser set up by school parent Georgina Johnston has now raised over £600 to replace the tools.

Sarah Hipwell added: "People just keep dropping stuff off.

"We've had some tools that are suitable and we've had some tools that aren't, but we can't knock the spirit.

"As a school we would be very interested in businesses getting in touch.

"The community support has been amazing. It has brought out the best in people."
