TWO councillors from Malvern have completed their charity walk with a twist.

Last week, we reported how Cllrs Natalie McVey and Daniel Walton were taking on a walk with a twist.

On October 25, the pair were driven to the Vale of the White Horse in Oxfordshire by council leader Sarah Rouse and given 48 hours to find their way back to Malvern, all with the aim of raising money for Maggs Day Centre.

The ordeal saw them sleeping in church porches, a greenhouse and other places as torrential rain swept the country.

Cllr McVey said: "It was truly eye-opening. When we were dropped off on Saturday we were given a selection of maps so it wouldn't be immediately obvious where we were.

"The weather was awful with the wind and the rain and we had no idea where we were."

Eventually, having spent a night in a greenhouse, the pair met a woman who noticed they were soaked through and drove them to the next town where they were able to get a bus to Cheltenham, then Tewkesbury, before their walk back took them through Bredon and into the Malvern Hills, finally arriving back in town on Sunday, completing their challenge in under 40 hours.

Cllr McVey added: "It totally changed my perspective on how I see things like this. On the Monday morning I heard people say what a nice morning it was and I thought: 'not for people out on the streets it isn't'"

The two councillors completed their challenge successfully, raising more than £1,000 in the process, and Cllr McVey is donating from her ward budget, taking the total past £1,500.
