AN initiative designed to get children involved in cricket has been given a boost by two organisations going into partnership.

Worcestershire Cricket has partnered with the Worcester Community Trust to introduce new sports to children aged 5-8 in the county.

The 'All Stars Cricket' programme will provide cricket-based activities to up to 100 children living in the community where they can take part in structured activity after school whilst also being provided with dinner.

The scheme allows the children from non-traditional cricket families to be introduced to the sport, as well as developing team building, social interaction and key movement skills.

Tom Raymond- Hill, cricket development director at Worcestershire Cricket, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Worcester Community Trust to provide their children with the opportunity to enjoy All Stars Cricket.

"This couldn’t come at a better time given the recent World Cup success and our opportunity to inspire a generation."

All Stars Cricket provides each child with their own bag, bat, ball, cap and personalised t-shirt for distribution by each participating centre.

100 children in the areas of Ronkswood, Warndon, Tolladine and Dines Green will be spending one hour a week for 8 weeks taking part in sports and exercise.

Worcester Community Trust CEO Ruth Heywood said: “The Trust are thrilled to be working closely with Worcestershire Cricket to provide a new activity to young people who may never have played the sport of cricket before.

"We are very grateful to the local businesses who supported the Street 6’s event in the summer to enable our young people this wonderful opportunity.

"We are keen to continue working with local businesses to enable the Trust to deliver more for our communities.”
