FLOOD water is slowly beginning to fall around the Malvern area after widespread flooding.

The B4211 re-opened on Thursday morning after being closed since Sunday, October 27.

Water levels remain high however, and flood warnings are still in place for the town.

The Severn at Upton peaked on Tuesday at around 5.3 metres and according to the gauge at nearby Saxons Lode, is now around 5.1 metres.

More rain is forecast and residents are advised to avoid using low-lying footpaths near water and to avoid contact with flood water.

Flood warnings remain in place for Hanley Castle and Saxon Lode and Hanley Road.

The Fox Inn at Bransford re-opened on Tuesday after being closed earlier in the week due to flooding. Elsewhere, Tenbury Wells was flooded but the flood warnings that were in place have now been lifted.

The highest reading recorded at Saxons Lode is 5.925 metres, recorded in July 2007.

The most recent highest level recorded was in February 2014, when the level stood at 5.446 metres.

The lowest reading recorded at Saxons Lode came in August 1976, when the water level stood at just 0.322 metres.
