In the show eight artists, using a variety of techniques, showcase their skills during a four hour test aiming to impress judges Tai Shan Schierenberg, Kate Bryan and Kathleen Soriano.

The winning artist goes through to the semi final and moves one step closer to claiming the winners prize to create a £10,000 commission to create a landscape artwork of Venice.

Although not one of the eight the artist, who lives in Ledbury and has a studio at the Take4 gallery, will still have a chance to get through to final as she competes as one of 50 wildcards.

Mrs Green said: "It was a fantastic experience, I really enjoyed it.

"I was approached by the programme makers to appear on the show and I sent them in one of my paintings, and next thing I know they asked me to appear as a wild card."

The 65-year-old said she was having to remain tight-lipped what happens on her episode, which is being screened on Tuesday, October 15.

But she said she could say that when it was filmed on the day the heavy rain made it very wet, and she was able to have a good chat with the hosts of the show, Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell, between filming.

Mrs Green said she had always had a passion for painting, drawing when she was growing up in Chipping Campden before going to art college, and becoming a full time artist.

"I've become well known for my paintings," Mrs Green said.

"People come from Worcester and Evesham especially to see my work in Hereford.

"And this isn't the first time I have done television work - I was on Countryfile last year."

Mrs Green said far from looking to retire she was in fact doing the opposite, painting now more than she had ever done.

The show will be on from 8pm on October 15, and also available to view on catch up.
