WORK is underway on a brand new £6 million school and nursery in Redditch.
The new school will be part of the Brockhill East Development, on the northern edge of the town.
The site is next to a residential area currently under development.
Holyoakes Field First School and Nursery will transfer from its existing site to the new, purpose-built school, which will accommodate a 26-place nursery, a reception class and a class for each of years one to four.
A ceremonial ground breaking event has been held to mark the start of construction.
Councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for education and skills, said: “This location provides a great improvement over the schools’ current site.
"This new building will provide an excellent learning environment for the students attending the primary school and those children attending the nursery class.”
Construction, maintenance and refurbishment specialist, J Tomlinson has been appointed to build the school by Place Partnership, which delivers property services on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.
The new school will be single storey and have a green and zinc roof with a timber-framed construction.
It is hoped the build will be done by Spring 2021.
The contract was awarded to J Tomlinson by Place Partnership, which coordinates and delivers property services on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.
