REDDITCH’S indie music shop Vintage Trax will be celebrating Cassette Store Day this weekend.
The store, on Birchfield Road in Headless Cross, has delved into the archives to replenish its cassette tapes – and will stock a number of rare and collectable titles for sale.
“Although vinyl records are our most popular selling music media, we are selling more and more cassette tapes each year,” says owner Ros Sidaway.
“At festivals, tapes are popular amongst VW Camper Van owners who still have radio cassette players in their vehicles, as do many classic car owners.”
She added: “Often times the cassette tape version of an album would include bonus tracks, due to having longer playing time than vinyl records, which makes cassettes very collectable.”
As well as tapes, Vintage Trax will also have original pre-loved cassette tape players for sale.
Cassette Store Day is taking place this year on Saturday, October 12.
The event runs from 10.30am until 4pm.

Not to be outdone by the vinyl revival, the humble cassette tape has begun to emulate the resurgence in retro music media.
Nearly 35,000 new cassettes have been sold in the UK for the first half of 2019, according to a BPI report via Wired - almost double the amount sold over the same period in 2018.
