A PROTEST against the repeated use of a Dudley town centre car park as a traveller's site has been cancelled.
The protest was scheduled to take place this evening, September 12, at the Flood Street car park, following a call from Councillor Shauqat Ali.
Numerous incursions have taken place on the car park this year, leading to Councillor Ali accusing the council of using the site as a "dumping ground".
The ward councillor for St Thomas' announced on Twitter that the protest has been cancelled, as council leader Councillor Patrick Harley has "given an undertaking that there will be no more incursions."
Speaking to the News at the time of the last unauthorised encampment in August, council leader cllr Patrick Harley said he was confident a transit site for the borough would be secured by next May.
Cllr Harley denied Flood Street was being used a “dumping ground” and he said he did not want to see illegal incursions “anywhere in the borough”.
