A PETROL station is returning to Upton-Upon-Severn after the town council voted to install new underground fuel tanks.
Plans to install two new 40,000 underground fuel tanks at the old Countrywide Stores and petrol station were given the green light at the planning meeting of Upton Town Council on August 20.
The proposed development includes the demolition of the existing buildings and the construction of a new food store at the former petrol station, in Hanley Road, just outside the town.
Councillor Graham Francis, who leads the planning committee, said: “The reports show fair consideration for the environmental and flooding aspects of the installation.
“It seems that they have done their homework on this.”

Cllr Neil Baldwin praised the speed of the application saying: “It is a good thing that they have found someone to take it on so quickly.”
Councillors voted unanimously to approve the application. The site, which includes the shop and petrol station, had been up for sale since 2018, when it was made available to developers.
The tanks are dual skinned steel tanks, weighing a combined 41 tons.
There are currently four disused fuel tanks on the site and records state that two of these were filled with concrete in 2000 and two were filled with water in 2018.
It is understood that the remaining tanks will be left in place, as no application has been submitted to the council for their removal.
