BLOCKLEY Church is planning an eco flower festival with a focus on eco-friendly sustainable living

On Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22, Blockley Church will be holding the festival and inviting village residents and local organisations to share in celebrating the beauty of their surroundings and to focus on how, as individuals, we may all live more sustainable lives and improve our ecological impact.

Children are invited to come to a workshop in Blockley Church from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, September 21 to make a wildlife mandala to feed the local wildlife through the winter.

Throughout the weekend, there will be a labyrinth in church.  Dorn Farm will be bringing a selection of cleaning materials which have a low environment impact. And everyone will be invited to search the churchyard for bats, bugs and bees, and the flowers which sustain them.

“Our churchyard is a place of history - it holds the stories, hopes and dreams of the village over the last 1200 years”, said Blockley’s vicar the Reverend Canon Dana Delap.

“It is also a place of peace and tranquillity in which the local community and visitors find space to reflect.  Over the past year, as a church community we have been considering how to live more sustainable lives, and have been creating a space which is more aware of our ecological impact.  All this we want to celebrate at harvest.”

Village organisations have been invited to bring to the church a bunch of flowers and a short description of the society.  “We want to show-case the beauty of our village, and so we ask that all the flowers are either from gardens or hedgerows or have been bought without any plastic packaging, and that they are not displayed in oasis”, the vicar explained.

Organisations willing to support the church in this celebration are asked to contact Stacy Paish, parish administrator at BlockleyChurch.Office@gmail.com or Dana Delap at dana@delap.org.uk or on 01386 700676 by September 1.
