Teams from police forces across the world will be taking each other on with bat and ball next week

Worcester Police Cricket Club is playing host once again to the International Police Twenty20 Cricket Carnival.

Nine teams from around the world will be competing in the 20-over games, including Worcester, New York Police Department, Toronto, New South Wales, Western Australia, Sri Lanka, Royal Military Police, Kent and a team from the rest of the world, including players from the UK, Antigua, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Inspector Mark Chappell, one of the organisers, said: “The international twenty20 cricket carnival is a brilliant few days for everyone involved, including the spectators.

“With England’s recent World Cup win in the 50-over format of the game we hope to see a large number of people come along and support police teams from across the globe and especially our own Worcester team.

“If you do have time during the week to visit some of the matches, please come and cheer on Worcester’s cricket team and all the teams playing.”

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said “The cricket festival is testament to the loyalty, commitment and values within the policing family which extends across the globe. I would like to thank all those who’ve given up their time to make this international event happen.”

Matches start on Monday, August 12, when Worcester Police take on the NYPD at Belbroughton Cricket Club, starting at 9.30am.
