AS part of its 60th year, the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team is adding another incentive to get more people out to explore the area.

The team has gathered second-hand books, from fiction to biography, and children's books to poetry, and is distributing them around the area for free.

The books are being left in public places where readers are liable to chance upon them, from stations and churches to car parks and nature reserves.

Some of the books are based in and around the Malverns, while others have been written by frequent visitors, but importantly, all have links to the area.

The finders are urged to read them, date the slip on the inside cover and leave comments, before returning the book for another reader to find.

If the initiative proves popular, more books will be added at new locations.

The area was designated 60 years ago in November 1959 and covers 105sq km.

Sarah Jones from the Malvern Hills AONB team said: "We're excited to see how this project will be received as it's a celebration of both literature and the amazing beauty of the Malvern Hills area."
