CONCERNED residents packed into Malvern Cube at the weekend for a meeting called to address the climate crisis.

The event, entitled How Do We Save The Planet?, was organised by the town’s branch of the Labour Party, who brought together a host of climate and environmental charities, experts and eco-friendly groups to discuss the

growing risk of a global climate catastrophe.

The event heard from three expert panellists who discussed

what is required of governments, global institutions and communities with regard to environmental and climate policy.

Kadees Mohammed, of Birmingham Labour for a Green New Deal, described the effect climate change is already having on those in the global south and how indigenous populations are leading the fightback against the current crisis.

Joining Kadees on the panel was Jacob Ainscough of Policy

Connect, who brought insight into the policy side of climate action, and Nadia Abdo, of Extinction Rebellion, who demonstrated what direct action groups can do to ensure collective voices are heard by those in power.

The event also included stalls set up by organisations including Transition Malvern Hills, Malvern Pride, Malvern Community Forest, The Marine Conservation

Society and the Worcestershire Vegan Society.

Malvern town councillor Dan Roberts, one of the event’s organisers, said: “It was amazing to see various groups and members of our community, both political and non-political, come together to discuss what we need to do to prevent a climate catastrophe.

“We were honoured to have some passionate speakers on the

panel but it was also inspiring to hear members of our community discuss how they get involved in the battle to save the planet, its eco-system and its species.

“This event demonstrated that our community demands that

those in power sit up and listen when it comes to the environment and climate change. Now is the time to take action.”
