PUPILS from Westacre Middle School tried out adventure activities to learn about team-building and survival.

Just under half of the school's year 6 children tried rock climbing, zip wire and archery at a residential trip at Blackwell Adventure, while the rest pitched tents and tried out a climbing wall at the school.

Trip leader Bryony Boulton, Year 6 teacher at Westacre, said: “The children really enjoyed the few days away camping.

"Singing songs and toasting marshmallows around the campfire was a highlight, as well as seeing the children challenge themselves to complete activities they may have found scary.”

Emma Mansueto, a year 6 pupil said: “I enjoyed the 3G swing the most because it went very high and made my tummy feel funny!”

Pupils who stayed at school also enjoyed a trip to Lower Smite Farm where they competed in various team-building activities, made necklaces out of natural materials and popped corn on the campfire.

William Lowe, a Year 6 pupil said, “My favourite part of the day was…all of it! I love working as a team and being outdoors as it was similar to what I do at Scouts.”

Paul Barber, Westacre deputy headteacher, said: "Survival Week has been another great opportunity for our pupils and fits perfectly into our school Experiences Curriculum.

"From children facing their fears at Blackwell to groups of children working together as a team at Lower Smite Farm, the week has seen Westacre pupils excel in so many ways.

"Thanks must also go to all of the staff involved for their extra commitment in organising the many different activities."
