THE first in a series of the Worcester News Camera Club meetings has taken place.

The weather was overcast but warm as around seven members sat in the garden of The Anchor Inn public house to talk about photography and life.

It was interesting seeing attendees recognise each other from just their online profile picture and it was like they had known each other for years, such was the community spirit.

Member Kevin Heywood, 55, said: “It was an absolutely excellent day meeting like minded people and it was nice to see a variety of people with different levels of experience.

“I would like to be a regular thing, possibly having a group with a formed committee.

“Everyone was just so friendly but I feel if the group became too big it may loose its friendlessness.

What makes a great photographer?

Mr Heywood added: “If someone takes a photo and they’re happy to share it to me, that’s a good photograph.”

The club has been up and running for around two years, prompted by the Worcester News staff receiving wonderful images on a regular basis from readers.

Fiona Hotton,49, a regular contributor, said: “It was lovely to meet fellow photographers, some using a mobile phone and others using bigger gear - great diversity.”

Mr Heywood added: “By joining the group around 6 months ago it’s got me out of the house, off the sofa and the motivation to loose weight.”

Members met on Sunday July 14 between 2pm and 6pm.

This will be a monthly fixture for the club and each day members contribute their images on a given theme for publication in print and online.
