A HUSBAND and wife team are bucking the trend in pub closures as they re-open Leominster's Barons Cross this week, before it undergoes a £100,000 refurbishment later this year.

On the outskirts of the market town, Gillian Moss will be running her first pub alongside her husband Dave.

As part of the re-launch, the Barons Cross has already undergone a small internal refurbishment to enhance the relaxed cosy atmosphere that will welcome the local residents.

Licensee Gillian has always wanted to run her own pub and has moved back from France to fulfill her dream, alongside her experienced husband, they make the perfect addition to this fantastic pub. The official launch will take place on Saturday.

The planned joint investment of around £100,000 is with community pub company Admiral Taverns, who's support has been invaluable for the landlady.

Mrs Moss said: "We're incredibly excited to have taken the reins at the Barons Cross, in what looks to be the most exciting summer yet at the pub.

"I couldn't have chosen a better place to start my new career in the industry and I've received fantastic support from Admiral Taverns and the local community. Everyone has been very positive about the pub and I cannot wait to meet all the new faces at the official launch."

Since 2000, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) said there has been a 20 per cent decline in pubs in the UK, but it has slowed since 2011.
