CUSTOMERS in a Hereford cafe were surprised to see the star of a TV show pop in for some lunch.

Star of the BBC comedy This Country, Charlie Cooper enjoyed lunch in La Madeleine on Church Street on Tuesday before taking photos with staff.

Ed Pitts said: "One of the staff pointed him out and it was nice to see him.

"It was really nice to have him in. Two of the staff, Chris and Nikki, are both massive fans of This County.

"I'm not sure we've had many others in here, Bez from the Happy Mondays is a regular over the road at Calandras and one of the staff once said Arlene Phillips from Strictly Come Dancing was in here but I didn't see her.

"We're chuffed he came in."

The sitcom, which follows the day-to-day lives of two young people living in a small village in the Cotswolds. Charlie Cooper plays Lee "Kurtan" Mucklowe and his sister Daisy May, plays his on-screen cousin, Kerry.

Sadly, news broke yesterday that one of the show's actors, Michael Sleggs, had died of heart failure aged 33.

The actor, who played Michael ‘Slugs’ Slugette in the BBC Three comedy, passed away overnight on Tuesday after living with a serious heart condition for many years.
