A WOMAN who stole make-up from a shop in Hereford has been given a conditional discharge by magistrates.

Emily Louise Maund, of Belmont Road, Hereford, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop when she appeared at Hereford Magistrates Court.

Shafquat Reaz, prosecuting, told magistrates that 25-year-old Maund stole make-up items including mascara, hair dye, foundation and deodorant from Wilko, Hereford, on Saturday, June 29, this year.

She left the shop, but was caught on CCTV concealing the items in her clothing and was later found by police in High Town after being identified from the footage.

Maund admitted stealing the items, valued at a total of £13.76.

Marilena Di Vitantonio, for Maund, said she had issues with her appearance and stole the items to make herself feel and look better.

"She understands that this is no excuse," Miss Di Vitantonio said.

"But there is no suggestion that she was stealing them to feed a drug habit, and she admitted the offence when she was first caught, and has entered a guilty plea."

Maund was given a conditional discharge for 12 months. She was ordered to pay £185 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge, in addition to £13.76 in compensation to Wilko.
