Doctors from Hay-on-Wye have aided “Helping our Homeless Wales” in securing grant funding to help with their valuable work in supporting those without a place to live.
The charitable organisation, run by volunteers, provides care bags, clothing, haircuts and support to homeless people and those at risk of falling into poverty.
Sarah Mason, one of the group’s founders, said “We were overwhelmed to hear that we’d been nominated. We thank Hay Surgery for their nomination.
“For them to recognise us and the work we do, in nominating and supporting us has been tremendous and we cannot thank them enough.”
Doctors and staff from surgeries in Hay-on-Wye and Talgarth, known locally as Haygarth Doctors, submitted the charity project for the Healthy Communities Grant from Assura, the company that looks after the surgery building.
Nominations were sent in from all over Wales, but it was Helping Our Homeless Wales that scooped up the grant money.
Haygarth Doctors said: “We consider this to be a very worthy cause, helping people locally and nationally throughout Wales”
“Homelessness is a growing problem and we are now seeing it locally in Brecon. Helping our Homeless Wales started over a year ago and in that time has gone from strength to strength.”
