Hooray. At last some people in authority in our county are waking up to reality in the 21st century.
Well done the new Herefordshire Council for calling a pause on the proposed bypass. Quite apart from the ripping apart of people’s lives, the destruction of ever more precious wildlife habitats , the huge carbon footprint generated by road building, the climate emergency which everyone agrees we are in judging by the unanimous vote in the last Council, it seems a new generation is leading the way. Ah, yes, the money, the ten million already spent.
Well, where did that go, our money? To the consultants, and land agents, no doubt, those experts in shiny suits and expensive cars, who live nowhere near any proposed building, and who would like 20 minutes off the trip to work, and who have probably never walked the route through Breinton and Belmont. And the other £182 mill? Think of what we could do with some of that in our cash strapped city? So, don’t give me economic growth, this is economic greed, and we can’t afford it.
