TWO brave students have been awarded for their 'inspirational' achievements.

Ruby Crowther and Keira Randall from Christopher Whitehead Language College have won Generation CAN awards. The awards, held at University of Worcester Arena on July 11, celebrate the stories of everyday heroes: children with special educational needs and disabilities and the adults who support them.

Ruby, in year 8 was nominated by Zoe Taylor, SENCO at school. Mrs Taylor said: "Ruby has a condition called SMA2 meaning that she is wheelchair bound and reliant on adult support for the most basic of tasks. In October 2017 Ruby had a failed operation to replace metal rods in her back with the aim of improving the straightness of her back. Sadly following the failure of this surgery Ruby suffered from sepsis leaving her in hospital fighting for her life for a couple of months. Since being discharged from hospital Ruby has gradually re-integrated back into school life.

Britain's Got Talent star Lost Voice Guy to perform at awards

Ruby is an incredible young lady. She has a quirky sense of humour and a creative mind. She is an asset to our school who brings joy to others."

The 'wonder award' is for remarkable ‘love and care for those parents, carers and young carers who have shown inspirational love, care, commitment and courage in spirit of a great challenge’.

Keira Randall, a year 7 student, was nominated by her friend Olivia Browne for this

award. When Keira’s Mum was rushed very suddenly into to hospital last year and ended up with nearly a two week stay. Keira supported her family throughout the whole worrying two weeks putting them constantly before herself as well as continuing to practice and then perform in the Pitmaston School year 6 end of year show, in which she had a leading role, not knowing if her Mum would be able to make it to the performance. Olivia said “The smile on her face was amazing, when her

Mum and family were spotted in the audience”
