GLASSBOYS chairman Andy Pountney has spoken out to clarify the position over their next manager.

Following previous reports the chairman confirmed the club will not be naming their new manager until after the end of season Player of the Year Awards.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 26 starting at 2.30pm when admission is absolutely free.

That timeframe came despite vice-chairman Andy Bullingham previously stating an announcement could be as early as next week.

Pountney said: "We plan to mark the occasion as a celebration for previous manager Gary Hackett and his staff after 16 years in charge."

But Mr Pountney confirmed: "We have been inundated with applications for the position of manager and they are still coming in. We will begin sifting through them the following week.

"We would hope to name a new manager by the end of the month."

He also underlined his commitment to the club and added: "Life goes on and we have to move on. I'm excited at the prospect of working with a new manager. The ship will continue to sail, but under the guidance of a new captain."

Whoever lands the manager's job will need to appoint new backroom staff as Hackett's assistant manager Jon Ford, coach Mark Clifton, goalkeeping coach Steve Johnson and sports therapist Richard Drewett have also departed the Glassboys.
