MEMBERS OF Pershore Riverside Centre met with their MP to lobby for improved river access.

Current legislation means some rivers and their banks are owned by individual landowners and there are sometimes arguments with people trying to fish stretches of water where canoeists and kayakers are.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin recently met with group representatives and agreed to raise the issue with Westminster colleagues.

“I visited Pershore Riverside Centre to open the extension and it’s a great place for people to come together, enjoy wonderful facilities and get fresh air and exercise," the MP said.

“West Worcestershire is blessed with three rivers running through it and I welcome all efforts to allow more people to make more use of this natural resource. I understand that legal anomalies mean there are sometimes points of conflict between people wanting to paddle on the river and people wanting to fish. I have written to the Government asking ministers to look into this and see if there is a way that we can find a suitable compromise.”
