The body of a woman recovered from the sea off the Welsh coast is believed to be a missing Herefordshire doctor, police have said.

Uma Kulkarni, aged 42, went missing from her home in the county on Wednesday, April 3.

It is understood she initially qualified in India before going on to work at the Cantilupe and Hampton Dene surgeries in Hereford. Her car – a bronze coloured Toyota Auris – was found near Aust Services near the Severn Bridge crossing days later.

A police search near the Severn Bridge and the surrounding area ensued and officers appealed for members of the public to contact them if they had seen the missing 42-year-old.

Police said a body was found in the water off Milford Haven on Wednesday, April 24.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police told the Western Telegraph today that “formal identification has not yet taken place" but "due to items recovered we have made the family of missing 42-year-old woman Uma Kulkarni aware of this discovery".

“We are keeping them fully updated," the spokesman told the Welsh newspaper.

"No further details will be released at this stage.”
