A DRAG show has raised over £2,000 for a vital Herefordshire charity.

Ann Marie Probert and friend Sonia Lowther planned the event after watching drag queen Roxy Tart perform whilst on holiday in Turkey last year.

"She told us that out of season she performs all over England, so we decided to book her and take the chance that we could raise a bit of money for charity," Ann Marie said.

And choosing a charity to benefit presented no difficulties for the fundraising pair.

"I thought that St Michael's Hospice would be a fab local charity to support," said Holme Lacy Road hospice shop volunteer Ann Marie.

Having secured one act, the charitable pair then posted a social media appeal for a singer or band who would be willing to perform for a small fee and were overwhelmed by the response they received.

Within an hour, local rock band Two Push Charlie were signed up after offering to perform at the event for free.

Over 30 Herefordshire businesses also made prize donations to the night.

Held at Hereford's Welsh Club, the sell-out April 5 event raised a fantastic £2,232.41 for St Michael's Hospice.

"We advertised the event in September and we sold out of tickets in four days," Ann Marie said.

"We had a waiting list of people, but the venue wasn't big enough to take any more. A lot of hard work went in to organising the event, but our aim was to raise £2000 and we smashed it!

"Thank you to everyone who was involved in helping us, especially the amazing Two Push Charlie, Roxy Tart and to all the businesses who donated the wonderful prizes.

"The room rocked on Friday night and we were so proud."
