THE final two founding members of a Leominster Morris dancing group have hung up their bells after 30-years.

Since founding the Jenny Pipes’ Morris side, Lyn Kendrick and Heather King have danced continuously with the group despite injuries, young children and pregnancies.

A type of folk dance usually accompanied by music, people taking part in Morris dancing usually wear bell pads on their shins and use sticks, swords and handkerchiefs.

Secretary Carol Booth is also stepping down from her role as they trio want to spend more time with their families and enjoy retirement, but said they’ve left the group in good hands.

Heather King said: “I feel like we are leaving the side in the healthiest state it has been for many years.

“There are so many new members now we feel like we are leaving it in good hands.”

Current and former members of the team gave the women a grand send off at the Crown Inn at Dilwyn, a venue which has regularly been used for performances in the past.

They received gifts including knitted dolls, made to look like each of them in their Jenny Pipes costumes.

Karen Sutton from the group said: “If you’ve ever thought you might like to try Morris dancing now is a great time to start.

“We have lots of new members so are spending time teaching our dancing repertoire, as well as learning totally new dances, so you won’t feel alone.

“Anyone who fancies trying their hand at being a Morris Musician for the side would also be very welcome.”
