A PHONE box which plays an important role in a charity has had a fresh coat of paint thanks to a kind hearted tradesman.

Worcester painter and decorator Glyn Cotterill gave up a week’s work to paint the phone box, which is used an information point for a charity, free of charge.

Mr Cotterill first heard about Crossroads Caring For Carers on BBC Hereford and Worcester Radio. The Worcestershire charity were advertising on Malcolm Boyden’s show to find someone to give their phone box a spruce up. Mr Cotterill said: “I have been following the story on ‘Malcs Miracles.’ It was on last year over the summer, and then I heard the story again asking for a volunteer painter. No one had volunteered, so I thought it would be a way of giving back to the community. I rang BBC Hereford and Worcester and they gave me the Crossroads number.”

Mr Cotterill, 46 who has been painting and decorating since he left school said: “I’m really pleased, I finished it yesterday. All the people passing by have been asking about it. The people in Powick are over the moon that something is being don with the phonebox instead of it standing idle.”

The phone box has leaflets about the charity's services and information about vacancies. Helen Simmons, manager of Crossroads Caring for Carers Worcestershire Branch said: “It looks absolutely fantastic, he was brilliant. We hope the community of Powick like the new look."

The charity's address is Crossroads Caring for Carers Worcestershire,Weir Lane, Lower Wick, Worcester. WR2 4AY. To find out more visit homecareworcestershire.org.uk or call 01905 729293.
