THE UK’s 12th annual Record Store Day may be a week earlier this year, but Redditch’s only independent record retailer, Vintage Trax, is ready to mark the occasion with a new look.

On entering the shop, customers now find themselves in The Rock Room, freshly painted and filled with original vinyl albums covering all sub-genres of rock music.

The shop will be celebrating the event in its own way.

“As is the norm for us, we will not be stocking any of the new RSD releases,” explained owner Ros Sidaway.

“Instead, we have focused on what we do best – curating and selling excellent quality pre-loved vinyl records from the Jazz age to the 1990s.

"Rock music is our most popular selling genre so we’ve pulled it altogether in one room with the back room now covering everything else.”

The shop also sells band tour merchandise and memorabilia, and was recently approached by Bev Bevan, former drummer with The Move, Electric Light Orchestra, ELO Part 2, Black Sabbath, and now percussionist with Quill, to help him sell some of the many items he has collected over the past 50 years in music.

These include tour programmes, concert posters, song sheets, limited edition framed litho prints, and a framed Gold Disc presented to Bev for 50,000 sales of ELO’s A New World Record album – all of which will be available for fans to purchase on the day.

There will also be a free raffle ticket with every purchase, free hot and cold soft drinks and nibbles, and music throughout the day.
