ROAD works are causing traffic chaos in the centre of Stourbridge, with drivers stuck on the Tesco car park for more than hour.

Lane two of Crown Lane is closed on approach due to traffic lights in operation at the junction with Bath Road while repairs are carried out on electrical cable.

A council spokesperson said: "This is causing considerable congestion in Stourbridge Town and causing difficulties for traffic exiting the Tesco Store Car Park, every effort is being made to complete the repairs and reinstate the excavation in a timely fashion, and attempts are being made to adjust the traffic signal operation to accommodate the unusual situation.

“Regrettably the lane closure may only be removed once the repairs have been completed and the carriageway reinstated to a safe running surface.”

Angry motorists have taken to social media to voice their frustration.

One user wrote: “I’ve moved three foot in an hour, phoned council three times and people are getting very angry now.”

Another added: “Don’t park on Tesco, it’s chaos! We’ve had to leave the car.”
