MYSTERY surrounds where a large amount of rubbish outside a Malvern supermarket has come from, with one resident branding the litter as a ‘disgrace.’

The rubbish is scattered around a small area of woodland at the top of the car park at the Malvern branch of Morrisons in Roman Way.

Malvern resident Paul Bennett, 57, said he had shopped there for years and was disappointed to see no action being taken about the litter.

He said: “The area is in a right state, there is rubbish all over the place and part of the wooden car park barrier has been smashed up.

“I was just astonished when I went up there because last year you could walk around in that area of woodland with your dog and it was relatively clear but no one seems to know where all the rubbish has come from.

“It affects the car park as well because the barrier has been smashed in places and it seems nothing is being done about it.

“If the land does belong to Morrisons then it is a shame because it reflects badly on Morrisons.”

It is understood that Morrisons does not own the land, but a member of staff from the store said they had been made aware of the rubbish issue by both employees and customers and that they were taking steps to sort out the problem.

A Morrisons spokeswoman said: "Over the next fornight we're sending in a team to remove the fencing and clear all litter from this area."

A spokesman for Malvern Hills District Council said that contact had been made with the landowner in order to request that the mess is cleared up.

“We are aware of the large amount of litter and we have approached the private land owner to advise of the mess and request clearance," the council spokesman said.

“At the current time we are working with the land owner to resolve the issue informally.”
