A WYRE Forest councillor has agreed to fund ten new lights on a Kidderminster road following “stupid and pathetic” night time car vandalism.

Cllr Fran Oborski says that the installation of new lights will help cut down previous acts of vandalism to cars on Lorne Street, Kidderminster.

Residents of Lorne street have complained car wing mirrors being smashed and broken overnight, as well as people jumping on top of car bonnets and ripping out windscreen wipers from the front and back of vehicles.

Cllr Oborski said: “There has been some really downbeat vandalism to cars going on at night.

“Following complaints from Lorne Street residents about vandalism to cars at night, and the fact that most of the street lights are switched off at midnight, I have agreed to fund 10 street lights being replaced with LED lighting which stays on all night.

“Hopefully this will cut down the stupid and pathetic vandalism to cars which has been happening on the street recently."

Cllr Oborski has also recommended that when the road is lit, residents should purchase cheap CCTV cameras to install so that they can help identify future vandals.

Cllr Oborski added: “I have also urged residents to install CCTV cameras to aim at their cars when the street is lit, and the footage captured can be given to the police.”

The new lights have been ordered and they expected to be installed in the next four to six weeks.

The councillor is also funding a similar light in Eastwood Drive by the alleyway into Belvedere Close and has funded the conversion of two lights in the alleyway from Wordsworth Crescent to Queen Elizabeth Road.

The councillor says that she has now used up her local highways funding for this year, and that after April 1, she will be asking residents in St Chad’s Division of WCC for any requests for minor highway issues.
