POLICE said no further action has been taken over a report of a hospital security guard allegedly assaulting a patient.

West Mercia Police could not find any record of a report about the alleged attack at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, last week.

However, yesterday the force said that police officers at the site were told about security guards restraining a patient due to their behaviour.

A woman who claimed she saw the alleged attack unfold in the hospital's A&E department said her partner told a police officer about the incident.

The witness said the security guard grabbed the patient's throat and hit him twice, following a confrontation.

She claimed the guard told her partner that the patient had hit an elderly woman.

The woman said she told hospital staff about the alleged attack, however she claimed they seemed uninterested.

West Mercia Police said no crime had been recorded and no further action taken.

The force added that it had not received a formal report about the matter.

ISS, which handles security at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, said it was investigating the incident, which allegedly happened on January 11.
