AN Evesham school had to be evacuated this morning after a fire was discovered in the toilets.

Fire crews were called to the De Montfort High School, Four Pools Road, at 11.43am.

The school was evacuated and all staff and pupils were accounted for, while 17 fire fighters, who arrived in three engines from Evesham and Broadway, put out the fire, using breathing apparatus, and hose reel jets.

As the fire was quickly brought under control, the school remained open.

However, some areas were kept shut to allow the fire investigation team to work with officers from West Mercia Police to identify the cause of the blaze.

A statement on the school website said: "Following a small fire in the school, the school will be closed today for sixth form and Year 6 students only due to smoke damage in their area."
