A JOURNALISM lecturer at the University of Worcester has been elected onto the board of one of the leading accrediting bodies for the profession in the UK.

Rachel Ammonds will sit on the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC) executive board for a three-year term.

As one of six academic representatives, Rachel, who was an ITV producer and director before joining the journalism team at the University of Worcester as course leader, will meet regularly with industry representatives from major media companies including the BBC, ITV, Associated Press, Sky, Channel 4 and Global.

“I’m delighted with the appointment," said Rachel. "This is a great opportunity for me to be more involved with the BJTC and their industry partners, all of whom are passionate about broadcast journalism and ensuring our students are prepared for a career in this field.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to this and to be strengthening links which can help journalism students at Worcester.”

The BJTC is the largest independent journalism accreditation body in the UK, and in March this year reaccredited the BA Hons Journalism course at Worcester for the maximum period of three years.
